The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has created a five-star rating system for the nation's 16,000 nursing homes as a helpful tool for families making decisions about nursing care for a loved one. Medicare assesses independent surveys and data covering three critical areas: health inspection results, quality measures and staffing levels. The ratings are updated monthly on www.medicare.gov. Along with visits to tour facilities, family consultation and recommendations from medical care providers, the rating system complements the individual research families conduct when selecting a nursing care facility that best meets their family members specific needs.
The National Lutheran Home & Village at Rockville staff are pleased to announce that NLHV received a "Much Above Average" four of five-star overall quality rating from Medicare for both Nursing Home Staffing and Quality Measures.

2009 Maryland Nursing Facility Family Survey
Our 2009 Maryland Nursing Facility Family Survey results are excellent. Our familes responded by opening their hearts and sharing their feelings about the care our staff provides. The response rate for the National Lutheran Home & Village families was 64.1 percent compared to the 57.7 percent average for the entire state of Maryland. The overall care rating for our facility was 9.2 out of 10. The average in Maryland was 8.3. Fully 98 percent of our respondents said they would recommend us to others. We are very pleased that families feel so connected to caregiving and the vote of confidence from families matters.
We met or exceeded our own 2008 survey marks in almost every area. We strive to make a superior effort to listen and hear what residents and families are sharing with us about the way they want to live their lives and it shows in our survey results.
